Configuring IBM Content Navigator TaskManager to work within an application server cluster

Question & Answer

Question

When setting up a multi-node IBM Websphere or Oracle WebLogic application server that includes a load balancer, how should IBM Content Navigator (ICN) TaskManager be configured in order for scheduled tasks such as those configured IBM Content Collector for SAP (ICC for SAP) to work correctly?

Cause

Scheduled tasks managed via the ICN Task Manager can regularly fail. For example, ICC for SAP tasks are failing in task manager, requiring a manual restart of the tasks.

Answer

A workaround in this scenario is to use just one ICN TaskManager instance. It is worth reviewing this document relating to session persistence/sticky sessions, as this may help in some instances:
https://developer.ibm.com/answers/questions/266149/are-sticky-sessions-required-for-icn-and-load-bala/

For a clustered ICN environment, ensure that the TaskManager url on ICN Admin desktop and the TaskManager url in the config.properties are identical. Not only that, but they should point to localhost, rather than the node hostname or load balancer hostname.

For example:
https://localhost:<port>/taskManagerWeb/api/v1

In some cases the following may work instead:
http//0.0.0.0:<port>/taskManagerWeb/api/v1
