Configuring the 7852-400 Modem for Facsimile Support/400

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document provides information for configuring the 7852-400 Modem for Facsimile Support/400.

Resolving The Problem

Configuring the 7852-400 Modem

Following are the basic instructions for configuring the 7852-400 modem for use with Facsimile Support.

The resource information for the modem will need to be known before configuration. To find this information, do the following:

1.From an operating system command line, enter the following:

WRKHDWRSC *CMN
2.Locate the V.24 Port, which is listed under the Text. The Type for the modem is not consistent and there may be more than one V.24 port. The CE will need to determine which V.24 port is the correct one to use or it may be necessary to delete and recreate the fax description using a different resource.
3.Write down the Resource name (for example, CMN01).
Create the Fax Description by entering the following command from an operating system command line:

CRTFAXD LINKTYPE(*ASYNC) LIND(FAXLINxx) RSRCNAME(CMNxx) FAXD(FAXDxx)
        FAXASCDEV(FAXASCxx)

After creating the fax description, the fax line should be in a CONNECT PENDING status and the controller and device should be in a VRYPND status.

Add the fax card by entering the following command from an operating system command line:

ADDFAXCRD FAXD(FAXDxx) FAXCRD(FAX1)

There is only one port for the modem and it must be named FAX1.

Setting the Modem Switches

There are several dip switches on the modem. Facsimile Support is set up to work with the modem with the factory settings. Changing the settings could potentially cause problems with sending faxes. Following are the factory settings for the modem.

There are 16 numbered dip switches on the side of the modem. From left to right, the following numbers are in the down position: 3 4 8 9 11. All other dip switches are in the up position.

These settings should work fine for both ECS and Facsimile Support.

The switch on the front of the modem must be set to ORIGINATE, not ANSWER.

Modem Lights

There are lights on the modem that could be of some help with problem determination. Following are a couple of situations and what lights on the modem are lit:
1.When FAX/400 is not started, only the 28.8/33.6 light should be lit. This is the transmit speed light.
2.The TR and CD lights on the modem will be lit after starting FAX/400

Incorrectly Configured Modem

When the modem is incorrectly configured, FAX/400 will not start. The status of the controller and device will stay in a VRYPND status and an ICF error will be logged in QFAXOPR. You will need to make sure that you have configured the correct V.24 port.
