Problem

This document provides information on how to configure 5250 session to avoid duplicates in IBM i Access Client Solutions.

Resolving The Problem

This document provides information on how to configure 5250 session to avoid duplicates in IBM i Access Client Solutions. When using named devices, you may want to set the Workstation ID to avoid duplicates so that users can have more then one session active at a time.

To avoid duplicates, you should do the following:

1. You can avoid duplicates by using the Generate button next to Workstation ID as shown in the previous screens and by checking the appropriate boxes as shown below: Avoid duplicate names in this workstation and Avoid duplicate names with other workstations.



2. You can also configure manually In the Workstation ID field:

a. To avoid duplicates on this workstation, you should type an asterisk (*) following the Workstation ID; for example, test* as shown in the screen below:



b. To avoid duplicates on other workstations, you should type an equal sign (=) following the Workstation ID; for example, test= as shown on the screen below:



c. To avoid duplicates on this workstation and other workstations, you should type both the asterisk and the equal sign (*=) following the Workstation ID; for example, test*= as shown in the screen below:



d. To add a prefix to indicate a Display or Printer session, you should add a percent sign (%) sign to the beginning of the Workstation ID: for example, %test with the other 2 options %test*= as shown below.
