Question & Answer
Question
How do you configure Veritas (now Symantec) NetBackup™ to send a status log file for each backup and restore operation?
Answer
By default, the NetBackup commands bpbackup and bprestore do not generate output that indicates success or failure, requiring users to scan the log files instead.
To configure NetBackup to send status to an e-mail account, log onto the Linux client as root and add the following line to the /usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf file:
- USEMAIL=myemail@mycompany.com
If a non-root user wishes to receive the log output of any command they run, they can create a bp.conf file in their home directory by running:
- echo "USEMAIL=myemail@mycompany.com" > ~/bp.conf
If a bp.conf file already exists, insert the following entry at the end of that file and save your changes:
- USEMAIL=myemail@mycompany.com
