Sterling TMS cansend the following alerts to shippers and carriers:

• Carrier ETA
• Calculated ETA

You can also specify at what point in the delivery cycle that Sterling TMS starts monitoringETAs.

Use the Late Tolerance settingto control how late the shipment has to be before Sterling TMS sends a CarrierETA alert or Calculated ETA alert. Specify the Late Tolerance asa percentage of the remaining travel time.

The following exampleshows how Sterling TMS processesa calculated ETA using the tolerance:

1. The shipper administrator sets the Late Tolerance to10 percent of the remaining travel time.
2. A shipment has a planned arrival window that is 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.on 1 October.
3. Sterling TMS calculatesthe ETA and determines that the truck has 20 hours left to reach thedestination. The transit time will cause the truck to reach the destinationat 4 p.m. on 1 October.
4. Sterling TMS calculatesthe tolerance as 2 hours (10 percent of the 20 hours left in the route).
5. Sterling TMS sendsthe Calculated ETA alert because the new ETA is 3 hours after theend of the planned arrival window (the 4 p.m. ETA minus the 1 p.m.end of the window = 3 hours).

Use the Begin Monitoring ETA settingto define the point at which Sterling TMS starts notifyingusers of exceptions to the plan.

For example:

1. You set the Begin Monitoring ETA settingto 8 hours from the start of the arrival window.
2. Sterling TMS beginstracking the ETA 8 hours before the start of the planned arrival windowfor a shipment.
3. If the ETA shows that a shipment is going to be late Sterling TMS sends an alertto the shipper or carrier.

The default for the Begin Monitoring ETA settingis 168 hours (7 days). Sterling TMS begins monitoringthe ETA for each shipment 168 hours before the start of the plannedarrival window.
