Problem

Command Line Client - 503 Bad sequence of commands.

Symptom

Error 503. Login failed.
503 Bad sequence of commands, must secure connection before USER command

Cause

Attempting to connect to a server that uses SSL. By default that server expects you to connect using Secure FTP. Specify that you want to make a connection unsecure.

Resolving The Problem

The server expect an SSL session and the client didn't initiate one. Configure the client to initiate an SSL session and provide the proper trusted root to the client.
