Question & Answer
Question
What causes the error message "COM Exception Encountered Unexpected Error: Code = 80004003, Code meaning = Invalid pointer" when I use the application integration with the DB2® Document Manager Desktop?
Cause
This error message can occur when opening an integrated Microsoft Office application with an incorrect menu assignment. Specifically, when an office application is using a Document Manager application menu where the menu mode is set for "Append" instead of "Replace."
Answer
"Append" is only used when integrating a DB2® Document Manager menu into an existing Microsoft Office toolbar or menu. It is impossible to append a DB2 Document Manager application menu to a Microsoft Office menu that does not exist.
For example: Assume you used the Designer to configure an application integration template for Microsoft Word. Currently Microsoft Word does not have a custom right hand toolbar. The DB2 Document Manager administrator assigns a DB2 Document Manager application menu to Append to a right hand toolbar. This request generates the error message because there is nothing to append to. The DB2 Document Manager administrator should set the DB2 Document Manager application menu to perform a "Replace" instead of an "Append."
