IBM Support

'The Cognos Controller link is not installed ... COM object that has been separated' caused by using Excel 64-bit

Troubleshooting

Problem

User runs a report (for example a journal across report). This displays OK on the screen. User now tries to send it to Excel. An error appears. However, if the user launches Excel directly (not from via Controller), user can see the Controller Add-in successfully registered (visible in Excel). User can successfully use the Controller Excel link (directly in Excel) to log in (and work with it - for example to run reports).

Symptom
