CMOS pattern test failure message for Netfinity 7100/7600.

Symptoms
When you are running system diagnostics "Quick Test" in loop mode, the system may experience an intermittent hang condition running the "CMOS Pattern Test" and report a false test failure.

The following message is displayed on the system monitor:
 
001-292-00-20000322-23-Core System: Failed (CMOS pattern test failed)

Affected configurations
The system is any of the following IBM Netfinity servers:

  • a Netfinity 7600 server, type 8665, any model.
  • a Netfinity 7100 server, type 8666, any model.

The system diagnostics fail as previously described in the "Symptoms" section.
 
Solution
Apply the latest BIOS update, which is "IBM Netfinity 7100, 7600 - Flash BIOS Update Diskette Version 1.00" or later. The executable file and its accompanying text file are available by clicking on this link.

Workaround
Disable the "CMOS Pattern Test" when looping the "Quick Test" in system diagnostics.
