CMOD - arsdoc get of variable length records, extracting and reloading

Question & Answer

Question

What is required to load a dataset of fileformat=record back into CMOD after an arsdoc get? How do we get the data to show line breaks?

Cause

Note: AFP is easy to extract and there is the handy AFRREBLK tool that reblocks it for you.

This technote is for plain old 3270 line data, loaded with applications with OS/390 indexer which have fileformat=record parameters.

This parameter was chosen because of a constantly changing lrecl of the datasets in input. This way this is no need to duplicate applications just for a new lrecl.

Answer

There's a utility shipped with OnDemand at /usr/lpp/ars/bin/arsmvsnl in USS.

It puts 'new line' characters into variable length docs from arsdoc get.

The syntax is:

/usr/lpp/ars/bin/arsmvsnl file.in L V >file.out
