Symptom
The Chassis Management Module (CMM) flash process may fail when uploading a local firmware file if the upload of the file takes more than 30 minutes.
The flashing process halts (so the firmware on CMM is not updated) and the User Interface (UI) displays a message box saying:
Timeout occurred while retrieving firmware file |
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- Flex System Enterprise Chassis, type 7893, any model
- Flex System Enterprise Chassis, type 8721, any model
- Flex System Enterprise Chassis, type 8724, any model
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:
- Flex System Chassis Management Module, Option part number 68Y7029, any Replacment part number (CRU)
This tip is not software specific.
The Build ID: 2PET10I firmware for the CMM is affected.
Solution
This behavior was corrected in IBM CMM [CMM] Firmware v1.40.0K Build ID: 2PET10K.
The file is available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:
Workaround
- Log in to the CMM Web UI, then go to Mgmt. Module
Management, Firmware.
- Select the primary CMM.
- Click Update.
- Select file source as Remote.
- Type the remote URL from where the CMM will download the
firmware file.
Additional information
The workaround gives users the ability to flash the CMM. The remote method must have a valid URL (such as, Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Trivial File Transport Protocol (TFTP), etc.) from which CMM can download the firmware file.
The Local method assumes users can browse for the file and the firmware is uploaded through the browser.
