Clearmake error in interpreting # within macros

Troubleshooting


Problem

This technote describes how you can avoid compiler errors when there are hash signs in the macros.

Symptom

$ clearmake -C gnu -f
Makefile.hash_fail
(echo Done; echo ' > foo
/bin/sh: line 1: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `''
/bin/sh: line 2: syntax error: unexpected end of file
*** Error code 2
clearmake: Error: Build script failed for "foo"
