Troubleshooting
Problem
This technote explains how to avoid a roll back of an IBM Rational ClearCase (CC) 7.1 installation which occurs when a public VOB cannot be mounted.
Symptom
During the installation of ClearCase 7.1 a roll back occurs if a public VOB cannot be mounted and errors are reported:
ClearCase daemons: albd_server
Loading mvfs ...
Loading mvfs specdev ...
Mounting public VOBs...
Mounting MVFS filesystem /vobs/test_vob.
The VOB storage directory "/net/svr40/opt/ccase/vobs/install.vob" was not found.
The VOB storage directory "/net/svr40/opt/ccase/vobs/release.vob" was not found.
Trouble mounting public VOBs(32:1)
ClearCase 7.1 installs successfully, however, the installation rolls back at the end because one or more public VOBs cannot be mounted.
Cause
The Installation Manager assumes any errors received during the 7.1 installation process indicate a failed install. This includes the failure to mount public VOBs, which can happen if there is a tagged VOB that no longer exists or if the client where the install is taking place is UNIX/Linux and the VOB server is Windows.
This issue has been identified as a product defect under APAR PK77541.
Resolving The Problem
Defect APAR PK77541 has been resolved in ClearCase 7.1.0.2.
WORKAROUND
To workaround this issue, during the install, enter the name of a ClearCase region or registry server that does not exist. That way there will be no VOBs to mount after the install completes. After the install is done, edit the rgy_region.conf or rgy_hosts.conf files (depending on whether you entered a fictitious region or server respectively) to enter the correct information and restart ClearCase. These files are located in /var/adm/rational/clearcase/config.
