Troubleshooting
Problem
If you are experiencing performance degradation over time using a WebSphere Business Modeler workspace, the steps below might help to clean up Eclipse metadata to improve performance.
Symptom
Performance might degrade over time if a lot of edits are made.
Cause
When a lot of edits are made, the underlying Eclipse resource manager is creating a lot of edit logs, which can grow very large and potentially lead to workspace corruption.
Resolving The Problem
One way to fix a corrupted eclipse workspace is to delete the folder <workspace location>\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resources and restart WebSphere Business Modeler.
The side-effect is that all your project will disappear from the WebSphere Business Modeler workspace, although they are still on the disk.
To fix this, you need to "re-import" the projects via File > Import > General > Existing projects into the workspace, and select all the projects you had before. If the projects do not appear, you may need to refresh the perspective by way of Window > Reset Window layout.
To recap the main path procedure:
- Close any editors.
- Close WebSphere Business Modeler.
- Perform the deletion, as specified above.
- Perform the re-import of the projects, as specified above.
- If needed, perform the layout, as specified above.
