Question & Answer
Question
Are the Classic 10.1 JDBC client backwards compatible to run against Classic 9.1 servers? Also, can the Classic 9.1 JDBC client run against Classic 10.1 servers?
Answer
We recommend matching the client version to the server version if possible. Otherwise, It is recommended to use the most current version of clients.
An up-level Classic JDBC client driver would be compatible with lower level server, but a lower level Classic JDBC client would have issues with a higher level Classic server. A lower level Classic JDBC client could still work against a higher level Classic server for some activities but would fail on others or give inconsistent results that would be difficult to diagnose and you would be chasing ghosts, trying to figure it out, if you were unaware of the version conflict.
