Question & Answer
Question
Is it mandatory to apply the latest APIGW 10.5 fixes before upgrading webMethods API Gateway to 11.1 in a clustered environment with an internal datastore? And can the patching be done in a rolling manner to avoid downtime?
Answer
Direct migration from API Gateway 10.5 to 11.1 is not supported. The supported migration path is:
API Gateway 10.5 → 10.15 → 11.1
Before starting the migration, ensure that the latest fixes are installed on both the source and target environments. Performing the migration without the latest fixes is not a recommended configuration.
A side-by-side upgrade is not supported in API Gateway 10.5. To move to version 11.1, first upgrade the existing environment to 10.15 and then follow the side-by-side upgrade procedure documented for versions 10.15 and 11.1.
It is strongly recommended to perform a dry run in a production-like non-production environment before executing the migration in production. This helps identify potential issues and validate the upgrade process.
Recommended Actions
- Upgrade in supported steps: 10.5 → 10.15 → 11.1.
- Install the latest available fixes on both source and target environments before migration.
- Perform a dry-run migration in a production-like environment.
- Follow the documented side-by-side upgrade procedures for versions 10.15 and 11.1.
