Troubleshooting
Problem
Inline specification is a term that means the specification to be executed is part of the SOAP message as opposed to a specification that is retrieved from Content Manager. For example, the ReportService run method has as it's first parameter a search path to the object in CM to be executed. The specification is part of this object. On the other hand, the ReportService runSpecification method has as it's first parameter the actual specification to be executed. In this case, there is no reference to an object in Content Manager, the specification is part of the SOAP message. As for the Specification Execution capability, it is one of the capabilities that allows a user to execute an inline specification. Different services support the execution of different specifications via the runSpecification. Different studios need to execute different types of inline specifications. For example, Report Studio needs to execute metadata specifications so Report Studio capability gives you the ability to execute metadata specifications. The Specification Execution capability was intended to allow a user to execute specifications without having to grant the capability to run a studio. It is kind of an SDK capability.
