Question & Answer
Question
In the DFSMS Access Method Services for Catalogs it states: DCDVOLSR The 6 character volume serial number the data set resides on. DCDDSSER The data set serial number. The data set serial number identifies the first or only volume containing the data set.
Answer
Description:
DFSMS Access Method Services for Catalogs states:
DCDVOLSR - The 6 character volume serial number the data set resides on.
DCDDSSER - The data set serial number. The data set serial number identifies the first or only volume containing the data set.
DCDINICF - This data set is cataloged in an integrated catalog facility catalog. This indicator is valid only for VSAM data sets.
Resolution:
DCDVOLSR - For a multivolume data set, the volume on which this specific extent resides.
DCDDSSER - The primary volume that the data set resides on. It identifies the first or only volume containing the data set. This information is obtained from the FMT1 DSCB field DS1DSSN.
DCDINICF - Is equivalent to the FMT1 DSCB flag DS1OPTIC, both are applicable to VSAM data sets only, there is no equivalent bit for non-VSAM data sets. The intent of this bit was to distinguish whether the VSAM data set is cataloged in a VSAM catalog or an ICF catalog.
