Hi Paul, do you have a couple minutes to chat? 9:19:42 AM

For you, of course... fire away... smile 9:30:54 AM

If you aren't the right person just let me know... I would have asked Kim Walsh about it but she isn't online:

In this document for "CICS Transaction Server for z/OS 3.1 and 3.2 End of Support announcement" http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21635057
I included the following and just want to make sure that it is still okay -- it should be but want to make sure nothing has changed that you know of:

IBM can offer a fee based service extension for CICS TS for z/OS V3.1 or V3.2 if you need more time to upgrade. A service extension entitles you to continue to receive the level of support that you receive today using the same channels into IBM, including raising PMRs and APARs. This is a comment that I had in the CICS CM 1.2 EOS document:
8/13/12 03:34 PM (Theresa M Hamilton): Per Kim Walsh "These tools are on the 5+3 model so we are obliged to offer the option of a service extension once they go OOS. For all of these tools the guidance should be to contact their account rep if they would like to know more about/purchase a service extension." so I added "IBM can offer..." to the content.

I'm asking because CICS TS 3.1 was generally available in 2005 and CICS TS 3.2 was generally available in 2007 so both have been supported for at least 8 years. Does that mean we've already fulfilled our obligation to offer support under the 5+3 model?

In the CICS TS 2.3 EOS document I changed it to the following -- so I can set a 2 year expiration date and do the same for the 3.1/3.2 document if we are going to offer extended support:
Since it has been more than 2 years since EOS, IBM is NOT generally offering a fee based service extension for CICS TS V2.3. However, if you have a special situation, you should contact your sales representative who will put in a special bid request for you. A service extension entitles you to continue to receive the level of support that you receive today using the same channels into IBM, including raising PMRs and APARs.

P N (Paul) Taylor
Ok, so we have fulfilled our service obligations. BUT for CICS TS we do not follow - and do not need to follow - the 5+3 service model. That model only applies to IPLA Programs. CICS TS is an ICA Program, so has different 'rules'. In fact, for service, we tend to be similar w.r.t the IPLA model but the important thing is we can differ if we want to and if the market conditions mean that offering service for longer makes financial sense. Certainly customers can request a service extension, and then it is a consideration for us - do we let them extend, or do we push that towards a later version - which we prefer as it means we can purge our service streams in favor of the later releases. Later releases cause us fewer headaches in terms of dependencies, such as Java and Eclipse, etc. 9:37:05 AM

Theresa Hamilton
so it sounds like what I've include is okay... people can inquire if they would like then someone will make a decision as to whether or not they get the extended support. right? 9:38:39 AM

P N (Paul) Taylor
I actually missed the top few lines there - as I didn't scroll up (doh!). I would be tempted to start with "A fee based service extension for CICS TS for z/OS V3.1 or V3.2 might be available from IBM, if you need more time to upgrade." 9:42:36 AM

Theresa Hamilton
ah, that way we aren't obligated 9:43:00 AM

P N (Paul) Taylor
Yes. That's because, especially with V3, we're keen to move them off it, so would need to think seriously about granting their service extension request - as it costs us too to field service requests for that far back. 9:44:02 AM

Theresa Hamilton
Thanks Paul... I'm changing it right now and will get it republished. I appreciate your help!! 9:45:36 AM
