Troubleshooting


Problem

This technote provides information about possible causes for the error, cleartool: Error: Checkout is currently disabled for element "element_name", when working in an IBM® Rational® ClearCase® snapshot view.

Symptom

  1. Attempts to checkout from a ClearCase UCM snapshot view results in the following error:

    cleartool: Error: Checkout is currently disabled for element "element_name".
    Its config spec rule information is currently unavailable due to either an aborted update or an update in progress.


  2. Attempts to checkout a file in a snapshot view results in the following error:

    cleartool: Error: Checkout is currently disabled for element "<element name>".
    The selected version for a hijacked element has changed.
    The view update tool can be used to find hijacked files
    and convert them to checkouts.
    cleartool: Error: Unable to check out "<element name>".


    Note: A cleartool ls on the file shows it as hijacked/nocheckout.

  3. Attempts to add to source control or checkout a file in a snapshot view results in the following error:

    Error adding the file C:\myview\myvob\parentdir\myfile.xls to source control.
    Checkout is currently disabled for element c:\myview\myvob\parentdir.
    An update appears to have been aborted or errors were encountered during an update.  An update must be performed on the element to enable a checkout.
    Checkout is currently disabled for element c:\myview\myvob\parentdir.
    Its config spec rule information is currently unavailable due to either an aborted update or an update in progress.

The view was previously working as expected but then stopped working and started reporting the above errors.

Note: This error may be encountered when using ClearCase LT.
