Checking validity of VMware licenses on PureApplication System

Question & Answer

Question

How to check if VMware licenses are valid on PureApplication System.

Answer

You can check VMware licenses with https://<float_ip>/admin/resources/hypervisor_keys
If it only lists two licenses and the type fields both include “_nfr”, the PureApplication System is using the default and not for resale licenses. For example:

  • type: vcenter_nfr
  • type: esxi_nfr

Consult the email with activation codes sent from the IBM account team after PureApplication System delivery for steps required to generate VMware license keys.

Contact your IBM account team if you need a new copy of this email.

To update the PureApplication System with license keys, follow these steps:

1. Select System Console >System>Product Licenses >VMware licenses and enter new keys.
2. Watch for the job hypervisor keys create to succeed.
3. After the job is finished, check with
https://<psm_ip>/admin/resources/hypervisor_keys
Correct keys are displayed and active.
