Checked out version, but could not copy data to view: Read-only file system

Troubleshooting


Problem

This technote explains why an IBM® Rational® ClearCase® view may fail during checkout with permission errors and what can be done to resolve the problem.

Symptom


While performing a checkout, the following error is received:

UNIX® and Linux®
**********************************************
cleartool: Error: Checked out version, but could not copy data to "<file>" in view: Read-only file system.
Correct the condition, then uncheckout and re-checkout the element.
cleartool: Error: Unable to check out "<file>".

**********************************************
Microsoft® Windows®
**********************************************
cleartool: Error: Checked out version, but could not copy data to "<file>" in view: Permission denied.

Correct the condition, then uncheckout and re-checkout the element.
cleartool: Error: Unable to check out "<file>".
