Question & Answer
Question
How do I change the SNMP community string?
Answer
If the SNMP community string is set to 'public', Security Scan may report that as a risk. To change the SNMP community string from public to a customer-defined string, do the following:
1. In a text editor such as vi, open the /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf file for editing.
2. Change following line:
- com2sec notConfigUser default public
- com2sec notConfigUser default <customer string>
3. Save the file.
4. To make the changes take effect, restart the SNMP service by running the following command as root:
- service snmpd restart
