Changing the SNMP community string

Question & Answer

Question

Does changing the SNMP community string on an NPS server affect normal operations?

Answer

Changing the SNMP community string on an NPS server in either HA and non-HA environments does not affect normal operation of the NPS server.

The concern that there might be issues with changing the SNMP string on HA systems relates to the snmpset command used in one of the cluster management scripts. This command references the system's internal Cisco switch and does not depend on the NPS server's SNMP community. Therefore, it is safe to change the NPS server's SNMP community string on an HA system without impacting cluster operations.
