Changing Ole object representation to Picture

How To

Summary

Perhaps you have a company logo and copyright notice /legend used on your charts and the logo is an OLE object?

By using OLE objects, this means you must maintain a suitable OLE server , possibly across multiple operating systems and this can be problematic. If you change the representation away from an OLE object to a picture file then you can remove the reliance/need for a suitable OLE server

Objective

We are looking at 'changing the representation', of the chart object from an OLE object to a picture but we are keeping the image file the same.

Steps

Select the chart object and select F11, list items, you can see the representation is OLE object, as expected.

Exit F11, list items and with the chart item still selected:-

Step 1: go to the 'style' tab, 'change representation' and select 'icon'

OK the selection.

Step 2. keeping the charted item selected, right mouse click and select  'edit Item Properties'

Step 3.  'set style' to 'Picture' and then browse to the appropriate image file and OK the selection

Step 4: You may need to adjust the enlargement, either choosing the incremental enlargements or custom/slider

Once you are satisfied with the size and have Ok'd, saved the changes, if you now go back into F11 , list items, you can now see the representation details:-

So if you are using the image as a logo, part of a legend  in your standard template, then you can be satisfied of the changes and make these same changes in your template and  adopt the use of a picture rather than an OLE representation, but using the same image file.
