Changing the Mode of Tape Devices

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document provides a quick reference for changing the mode of tape devices.

Resolving The Problem

This document provides a quick reference for changing the mode of tape devices.

The modes of the following tape libraries can be changed using the Web interface

TS2900 (3572)
TS3100 (3573)
TS3200 (3573)
TS3400 (3577)

After the mode is changed on a 35XX type of tape library or device, an IPL the IOP, or power cycle of the IOA is required. (If DASD or communications IOAs are on the MFIOP, the entire system must be IPLed or the IOA needs to be power cycled)

The following tape libraries have a single mode of operation - Random and therefore cannot be changed to SEQ

3494
3584 (TS3500)
3583
3575
3576 (TS3310)

Although the mode of these drives cannot be changed, it is possible to manually load a cartridge into the tape drive and then vary the tape media library off and then vary on a tape device description associated with the tape resource.
