Changing the Library List Used by Data Transfer

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document describes how to change the list of libraries that are displayed when clicking on the Browse button in a Data Transfer session.

Resolving The Problem

Important Note: This document discusses Client Access for Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT, Client Access Express, IBM iSeries Access, and IBM System i Access products. These names essentially refer to the same product; however, the functionality and name changed over the last several releases. For the purposes of this document, the terms Client Access, Client Access Express, iSeries Access, and System i Access can be used interchangeably. Where a difference is important, the version of the product is used to identify the differences.

The following describes how to change the library list for Data Transfer (Client Access Express and IBM iSeries Access).

Client Access Express and iSeries Access data transfer initially show a list of libraries when browsing or expanding the system. Usually the libraries listed are the libraries that are used most often by the user. The list is derived from the job description of the file transfer or data transfer job. The default configuration for data transfer is to use the Job Description specified in the user profile that made the connection.

The job description can be set so that a list of certain libraries is used, or the user portion of the library as defined by the QUSRLIBL system value is used.

For most users, the job description is QDFTJOBD. On the operating system command line, type the following:

WRKJOBD JOBD(QDFTJOBD)

Press the Enter key. Select Option 2 to Change. Page down until the Initial Library List is shown. This is the library list that Client Access data transfer shows when clicking on the Browse button to retrieve a list of libraries. This value can be set to *SYSVAL or individual libraries can be specified.

If you want the initial library list to be different, do one of the following:
oIf the initial library list for the job description shows *SYSVAL, run the Work With System Value (WRKSYSVAL) command, and change the system value for QUSRLIBL. Add the desired library name(s) to the list.
oAdd the library name(s) to the initial library list of the job description.
oCreate a new job description with the desired library list and change the user profile to use this job description.
Note: Changing either the system value QUSRLIBL or the job description QDFTJOBD may impact other programs used on your system. Test the change carefully in a controlled environment before implementing in a production environment.

Client Access Express and iSeries Access data transfer provides another way to Add a library to the library list. When using Client Access Express or iSeries Access data transfer, select the File drop-down menu in the data transfer session, select Properties, and add a library on the Library List tab. This modification, however, is temporary and does not persist when you log off or end your data transfer session.

The desired library can also be temporarily added to the library list by entering the library name to the File name parameter (in the data transfer session) before clicking on the Browse button.
