Troubleshooting
Problem
Is there a way to open an Impromptu report against a different catalog than the one it was created with?
Resolving The Problem
An Impromptu report can be opened using a different catalog, although the
catalog structures must be exactly the same. This includes Table names and
column names, as the catalog has retrieved metadata about these tables that
must match for the report to run. If the table structures etc are not the same
a table or view not found error will result.
NOTE: It is important you
create a backup copy of your report first as a precaution.
1) Open the
Impromptu report
2) From Report menu select General. Click on the General
tab and on the Catalog section, browse to the location of the new
catalog.
3) Click OK.
4) A dialog box will prompt with the following:
" You have indicated that you would like to change the catalog for this
report from <old catalogname> to <new catalogname> This will
involve saving and closing this report. Are you sure you want to do this?
"
5) Click Yes.
6) You will then be prompted to confirm changes.
Click Yes. This will close the report.
7) Upon re-opening the report, you
will receive the message: "This catalog was created using a different
catalog. References to catalog information will be re-established using this
new catalog."
8) Click Yes.
Or:
Save the original
report as a template, and create a new report based on the template using the
new catalog.
