Changing Backup and Archive retention values for copy group.

Users back up and archive their client data to a Tivoli Storage Manager server by binding their data to the default management class or using a specific management class. A management class uses a backup copygroup to control the retention of backup data and uses an archive copygroup to control the retention of archive data.

When the backup copygroup "Retain Extra Versions" (retextra) or "Retain Only Version" (retonly) values are modified, the changes affect the data currently stored on the Tivoli Storage Manager server as well as the new data being backed up. The data will expire at a longer or shorter time depending on how you changed the values. Data will expire with the new configuration the next time the expiration process is run.

When the backup copygroup "Versions Data Exists" (verexists) or "Versions Data Deleted" (verdeleted) values are modified, the changes affect the data currently stored on the Tivoli Storage Manager server as well as the new data being backed up. For the change to effect, a new version of the file must be backed up. At the time of backup, versioning will occur and the number of backup versions kept on the Tivoli Storage Manager server will be adjusted.

When the archive copygroup "Retain Version" (retver) value is modified, the change affects the data currently stored on the Tivoli Storage Manager server as well as the new data being archived. The data will expire at a longer or shorter time depending on how you changed the values. Data will expire with the new configuration the next time the expiration process is run.
