Changes introduced by Microsoft starting with JDBC driver version 10.2

Troubleshooting

Problem

A copy of version 10.2.0 or higher is placed into the <cognos>\drivers folder, and connections fail. Connections made by Dynamic Query or Content Manager previously worked that uses older versions of the Microsoft JDBC driver.

For example, a connection Dynamic Query uses fails with the following error.

XQE-DS-0006 Unable to logon to the data source.
The driver could not establish a secure connection to SQL Server by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption. Error: "com.ibm.jsse2.util.j: PKIX path building failed: com.ibm.security.cert.IBMCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target".

For example, a connection defined in Cognos configuration fails with the following error.
[Content Manager database connection]
[ ERROR ] The database connection failed.
[ ERROR ] Content Manager is unable to connect to the content store. Verify that the database connection properties in the configuration tool are correct and that when you test the connection, the test is successful.
