Change the shell prompt (PS1) instead of changing the hostname.

How To

Summary

This article provides instructions on how to set the shell prompt (PS1) at OS level, so it shows a custom hostname, instead of the actual hostname of the instance (and without actually changing the system’s hostname, that might break the instance when updating certificates as per Solving kubelet configuration issues when the hostname is changed after Turbo Install. ).

This helps customers that have more than 1 Turbonomic server to differentiate between their instances when connecting through SSH/Console, as by default, the prompt will show [turbo@node1 ~]$ , Where “~“ represents the current working directory, in this case, /opt/turbonomic (or the turbo user home dir).
