Change NPS port settings

The following table lists the default ports on the NPS system through which connections are made:

5480	NZ_DBMS_PORT	The database port which is used by the nzsql command, the NzAdmin tool, ODBC, and JDBC.
5481	NZ_CLIENT_MGR_PORT	The system manager port used by CLI tools and some features of the NzAdmin tool.
5482	NZ_LOAD_MGR_PORT	As of Release 3.1, this port is not required.
5483	NZ_BNR_MGR_PORT	The port for the nzbackup and nzrestore commands.
5484	NZ_RECLAIM_MGR_PORT	The port for the nzreclaim command

To change the port numbers, do the following:

1. Replace the existing nzinitrc.sh file with the sample settings file.

cp /nz/kit/sys/init/nzinitrc.sh.sample /nz/kit/sys/nzinitrc.sh

2. Edit the /nz/kit/sys/nzinitrc.sh file by changing one or more port numbers. (For each port setting that you change, you must uncomment the line by removing the initial # character.)

3. Refer to the /etc/services file on the NPS host to ensure that there are no port conflicts with the new port you are choosing.

4. Use the Unix netstat command to list any process that may be using the new ports.

netstat | grep 8000

5. Make sure that nz has access to the /nz/kit/sys/nzinitrc.sh file.

chmod 777 nzinitrc.sh

6. Restart the NPS database using nzstop then nzstart -i.

7. Specify the port in the nzsql connection.

nzsql -u admin -pw password -port 8000

Note: You must explicitly specify the port every time you log into the database unless you copy the variable values from nzinitrc.sh to the .bashrc file under /export/home/nz */.

The following port numbers are used by various clients to connect to the host:

80, 443	HTTP and SSL connections for the NPS Web Admin application and HP Insight Manager
22	SSH

If you change the port number for the NZ_DBMS_PORT variable and you have ODBC clients defined, be aware that each ODBC client needs to have its port setting updated (using the Windows Control Panel/ODBC Data Manager, or an .odbc.ini file).

If you change the port number for the NZ_CLIENT_MGR_PORT variable, which is the port to which the NzAdmin tool connects, each Windows system that has the NzAdmin tool installed must add to its environment variables NZ_CLIENT_MGR_PORT and the appropriate value to allow the connection.

If you change the port number for the NZ_LOAD_MGR_PORT variable, you must also set the NZ_RECLAIM_MGR_PORT environment variable in order for the nzreclaim command to connect to the appropriate port.

Note: To avoid nzload issues due to the port change, the NPS release must be 6.0.P11 or later.
