Question

How to gather debug output of a failing, padmin command. This applies to VIOS 3.1 and 4.1

Answer

  1. Login to VIOS as padmin
  2. $ oem_setup_env                    (Switches to AIX/root shell)
  3. # script -a /home/padmin/<Your_Support_Case_ID>.clidebug33.out             (Run script command to capture details)
  4. # su - padmin                           (Switches back to padmin shell)
  5. $ ioslevel                                    (List VIOS version)
  6. $ uname -LMm                         (List LPAR name, LPAR ID, Machine Type and Model
  7. $ export CLI_DEBUG=33       (Enables debug mode)
  8. Run offending command to reproduce error   
  9. $ export CLI_DEBUG=""        (Disable debug mode)
  10. $ exit                                           (Exit padmin)            
  11. # exit                                           (End script)
