Cannot Work with TCP/IP Servers in IBM i Navigators

Troubleshooting

Problem

NOTE: This document contains information for the out-of-support product IBM i Access for Windows.

Cannot access TCP/IP Server Properties or cannot Start/Stop TCP/IP Servers using the IBM Navigator for i or Access for Windows Navigator.

Resolving The Problem

The following error occurs: A server communication error has occurred. Please contact your next level of support, This error is received when the user tries to start or end a TCP/IP server or tries to view the TCP/IP server's properties using Navigator. The user can start and end the TCP/IP servers successfully from the IBM i command line. CWBPING shows the following:

E - CWBCO1003 - Sockets error, function connect() returned 10061
E - CWBCO1049 - The iSeries server application (Data Access) is not started
E - CWBCO1008 - Unable to connect to server application Data Access, returned 10061

These operations with the TCP/IP Servers require connectivity to the Database Host Server on the IBM i. This server is started with the STRHOSTSVR *DATABASE command. Once that server is started, these TCP/IP Server functions in Navigator work.
