Troubleshooting
Problem
When attempting to use the IBM SAS hard drive update program on a two-node System x3950 M2 system, the following errors are displayed: "The IBM Hard Drive Update Program detected possible non-warranted hard disk drives in your system. The following screens will help you identify the non-warranted drives and log file (unsupp.log) will be created. These drives have not been recognized as an IBM qualified and warranted part. Firmware updates will not be applied to these drives." Selecting OK to the "Do youwant to identify non-warranted drives" dialog brings up the following: Error detected identifying drive P\N: LSI INT S\N: E 3000 Ada : Chn: SID: Lun:n-W After canceling past this, the update application is only able to identify and update the four harddisk drives in the Primary Node. The hard disk drives in the secondary node do not appear.

The HDD update utility is affected.
This tip is not Operating System specific.
Solution
A fix will be in the next version of the IBM SAS hard drive update program.
The target date is scheduled for fourth quarter 2008.
The file is available at the following web site:
Workaround
Separate the system into single node partitions and update the hard disk drive firmware on each node individually.
Additional information
The next hard disk drive update program with the fix has a tentative version number of 1.03. The version number is subject to change.
