Cannot start Rational Performance Tester after upgrading Firefox

Troubleshooting


Problem

IBM Rational Performance Tester does not start on some Linux computers after the Firefox browser has been upgraded.

Symptom

Rational Performance Tester does not start. In some cases, an error message is displayed:

"An error has occurred. See the log file .metadata/.log."

The .log file contains several messages of this type: "Widget disposed too early."

If you attempt to start Rational Performance Tester from a command prompt, an error message might be displayed at the command prompt. For example, the following error message might be displayed:

$ opt/IBM/SDP/rptse/eclipse -product com.ibm.rational.rpt.product.ide
/opt/IBM/SDP/jdk/jre/bin/javaw: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.0.12/libxul.so: undefined symbol: gdk_screen_get_resolution

Sometimes the incompatibility is minor and the product will start but the Use internal web browser preference is disabled (Window > Preferences > Web Browser > Use external web browser is the only option available)
