Cannot SSH to HMC via PuTTy after upgrading to version 9.1

Troubleshooting


Problem

While trying to SSH to the HMC latest version using PuttY it'll come back with an error and won't allow to SSH.

Symptom

After upgrading the HMC to version 9.1 or later, user might be not be able to SSH to the HMC via PuTTy getting error "Couldn't agree a key exchange algorithm":

PuTTy error when trying to SSH to the HMC after upgrade.

Cause

The reason for the problem is that some SSH Cryptographic Settings were deprecated and additional fixes for vulnerabilities were added (compromised cyphers were removed) in the HMC for security reasons.

Diagnosing The Problem

User have to be able to SSH from any other command prompt except PuTTy.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve this issue, kindly update PuttY application to the latest version to be compatible with the newer HMC versions security protocols.
