Cannot Log In to FTP Server with 530 FTP message

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document discusses a common error, FTP530, when trying to log in to the FTP server at V5R3M0 or above.

Resolving The Problem

When trying to log in to your FTP server on your IBM eServer i5 at V5R3M0 or above, one of the following messages may be issued:

o

530 Log on attempt by user XXXXXXXX rejected. Login failed.
o530 Not able to set ASP group for user XXXXXXXX. Logon rejected.
A message TCP3D43 - 530 Not able to set ASP group for user may be logged in the QTFTPxxxxx joblog or in an FTP server trace.

These messages are typically caused by one or both of the following:
oThe job description specified in user profile XXXXXXXX is not a valid job description (for example, wrong library, spelled incorrectly, and so on).
oUser XXXXXXXX does not have authority to one or more of the libraries in the job description's library list.
Correct these issues, and the user will again be able to log in successfully to the FTP server.
