Cannot install Installation Manager in nonadmininstrator mode after installing in administrator mode

Troubleshooting

Problem

You are a root user with a HOME directory of "/". You install IBM Installation Manager in administrator mode. You then install Installation Manager in nonadministrator mode on the same machine. The installation for nonadministrator mode fails.

Symptom

The installation for nonadminstrator mode fails with the error:

The running Installation Manager's accessRights mode (accessRights=nonAdmin) is incompatible with the "/var/ibm/InstallationManager/installRegistry.xml" install registry's accessRights mode (accessRights=admin).

Cause

This issue occurs because the default Installation Manager data location and registry file location for administrator mode and nonadministrator mode conflict when the HOME directory for the root user is "/".

For example, the administrator installation uses the /var/ibm/InstallationManager directory as the default data location for administrator mode. When the root user installs in nonadministrator mode with the home directory "/", the same directory is used: ~/var/ibm/InstallationManager.

Resolving The Problem

To workaround this issue:

1. Create a user who does not have the HOME directory "/".
2. Install Installation Manager in nonadministrator mode with this user.
