Cannot create a deployment group from the Data Studio File menu

Troubleshooting


Problem

An attempt to create a deployment group might fail from the Data Studio if you select either File> New> New Deployment Group or File> New> Other> New Deployment Group. Data Studio displays a null pointer exception error in the Error Log view.

Symptom

If you try to create a deployment group from the File menu, you might encounter one of the following two exceptions when you try to create a deployment group depending on existing data artifacts in your workspace:

  • The workspace is a new workspace. After you click Next on the Select Wizard Page, the wizard does not proceed to next page. This null pointer exception error is logged in the Error Log view:


    • java.lang.NullPointerException
    at com.ibm.datatools.deployment.manager.core.DeploymentGroupManager.getWorkspaceUniqueDeploymentGroupName(Unknown Source)
    at com.ibm.datatools.deployment.manager.ui.wizard.pages.NewDeploymentGroupNamePage.createControl(Unknown Source)
    at org.eclipse.jface.wizard.Wizard.createPageControls(Unknown Source)

  • The workspace contains data development projects and artifacts. After you click Finish on the last wizard page, the wizard does not close. This null pointer exception error is logged in the Error Log view:


    • java.lang.NullPointerException
    at com.ibm.datatools.deployment.manager.ui.wizard.NewDeploymentGroupWizard.performFinish(Unknown Source)
    at org.eclipse.jface.wizard.WizardDialog.finishPressed(Unknown Source)
    at org.eclipse.jface.wizard.WizardDialog.buttonPressed(Unknown Source)
