Can a Workflow Delegate be Delegated

Symptom

In Maximo 7.6 we completed work on the Request For Enhancement to add the ability to specify a Workflow Delegate for people who were Workflow Delegates for other people.

Before Maximo 7.6 was released, this did not work as described in detail below.

When using Workflow if a Person who normally receives Assignments to their Workflow Inbox is absent you can specify a Delegate on their Person record. The Delegate will now receive new Assignments that would otherwise have gone to the original Person. If the Delegate also has to be absent you might specify a Delegate for their Person record, too. However, at this time, Maximo does not support this.

If you do specify a Delegate for a Person who is already a Delegate, only Workflow Assignments made directly to that Person will go to their Delegate. Assignments made to Persons for whom the Delegated Person also has a Delegate will go to the first Delegate but will not then be delegated on to their Delegate.

For example, Person A is on vacation for 2 weeks so Person B is added to Person A's person record as Person A's Workflow Delegate. New assignments made in Workflow processes to Person A will now show up in Person B's Workflow Inbox as you intended.

Now Person B goes on vacation so you specify Person C as Person B's Workflow Delegate. Workflow assignments made directly to B in a Workflow process will now go to C. But Person A's assignments, that are now Delegated to Person B, will not then be assigned to Person C. They will stop with Person B.
