Can a csv file be used as a data source in IBM InfoSphere Information Analyzer?

Question & Answer

Question

Can a csv file be used as an Information Analyzer data source?

Answer

Yes, it is possible to use a csv file as a data source in Information Analyzer; you consider it a text file. There are other configuration steps as well, please refer to the attached document 'How to Profile Text Files' for setup guidelines. Please note the document shows Windows platform, however the configuration is the same for Unix/Linux and can be easily adapted.

Here is a sample .odbc.ini DSN definition for reference on Unix/Linux platforms:

[csvTest]
Driver=/opt/IBM/InformationServer/Server/branded_odbc/lib/VMtxt22.so
Description=DataDirect TextFile(*.*) Driver
AllowUpdateAndDelete=0
ApplicationUsingThreads=1
CacheSize=4
CenturyBoundary=20
Database=/mydata/LocationOfSourceFile/
DataFileExtension=csv
DecimalSymbol=.
Delimiter=,
FileOpenCache=0
FirstLineNames=1
IntlSort=0
ScanRows=0
TableType=Comma
UndefinedTable=GUESS

Please note the QETXT.INI file should also be copied to the same directory as the source/flat (csv) files. Refer to the attached document for more information on the QETXT.INI file.
