Cacti backup before upgrading

Question & Answer

Question

How do I backup cacti related files before upgrading?

Cause

Some files may be overwritten during upgrade. So it is important to create a backup whenever you upgrade Cacti.

Answer

You must back up all directories except the log and rra directories. If you are not concerned about the size of the backup, you can continue to back up those directories though. The following is a command example:
tar --exclude=*.rrd --exclude=*.log -cf cacti_backup.tar cacti
