Problem

Bootable Media creator (BoMC) and IBM ServerGuide ScriptingToolkit Linux Edition fail to start in Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) mode when using a Microsoft Windows Operating System PXE server.

Resolving The Problem

Source

RETAIN tip: H207475

Symptom

Bootable Media creator (BoMC) and IBM ServerGuide ScriptingToolkit Linux Edition fail to start in Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) mode when using a Microsoft Windows Operating System PXE server.

To recreate the issue, use BoMC to create UpdateXpress System Pack Installer or ServerGuide ScriptingToolkit Linux Edition with PXE mode, to put the PXE image into a Microsoft Windows server; after which the system cannot start.

Affected Configurations

The system is configured with at least one of the following items:

  • Bootable Media Creator, 9.21
  • ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit - Windows Edition, any release

This tip is not system specific.

This tip is not option specific.

The system has the symptom described above.

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Please see the compatibility page for more information: http://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/us/

Solution

The issue was fixed in IBM ToolsCenter Suite Version 9.40 Build ID: 13B.

The file is available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Workaround

To work around this issue, in the PXE start image delete the parameter 'tftp_blksize=1420' under the directory 'pxelinux.cfg\default,' and then restart the system.

Additional Information

In Microsoft Windows, when the value '-b' is greater than 512, the command 'busybox TFTP -b' fails to download any files from the Microsoft Windows PXE server.

After deleting the value 'tftp_blksize,' the system uses the default value of 512.
