Users will see the following POST errors with BIOS version 1.18 or earlier after installing a ServeRAID-8s controller: PCI System error on Bus/Device/Function 000h PCI System error on Bus/Device/Function 0018h

Symptom

Users will see the following POST errors with BIOS version 1.18 or earlier after installing a ServeRAID-8s controller:

PCI System error on Bus/Device/Function 000h PCI System error on Bus/Device/Function 0018h

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • System x3250, type 4364, any model

This Tip is not software specific.

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

  • ServeRAID-8s SAS Controller

Solution

Update the System x3250 Server to BIOS version 1.19 or higher when available. The new BIOS is expected to be released in First Quarter 2007.The file will be available from the IBM System x Support web site.

Workaround

None.

Additional information

The ServeRAID-8s controller is only supported in the IBM System x3250 with BIOS version 1.19 or higher due to a known system BIOS compatibility issue with the adapter. This is corrected in BIOS version 1.19 and higher.
