BACKFM displays extra objects for a given backup ID

Troubleshooting

Problem

Using the DP for mySAP component BACKFM to query the Tivoli Storage Manager server for all objects for a given backup ID, extra objects might be displayed.

Diagnosing The Problem

Using multiple paths in the DP for mySAP initSID.utl file, BACKFM will query all the Tivoli Storage Manager server paths and display all the objects added together. For example, during backup 108 objects are saved:

0053I: Time: 03/26/05 01:30:39 Object: 108 of 108 done: /oracle/DV4/sapdata27/u
ndo_1/undo.data1 with: 2040.000 MB saved with description SAPDV4A0E6RL8796.
BKI0055I: Object /oracle/DV4/sapdata27/undo_1/undo.data1 with 2040.000 MB saved with description SAPDV4A0E6RL8796_SFTSM04_G25_NEW@DV4_BKUP#570011 00000.

The results of the BACKFM query shows 216 objects:

Backup-ID's | Files stored under SAPDV4A0E6RL8796
108 BIDs | 216 File(s) - 0 marked

Resolving The Problem

If there are multiple Tivoli Storage Manager server paths listed in the initSID.utl file, then a BACKFM query will look at all of these paths. The objects from all the Tivoli Storage Manager server paths will be added together and displayed. This can result in duplicate entries in the list, and therefore in more objects being displayed than exist in a specific backup.

This does not cause a problem when the objects are being restored. The DP for mySAP backint process will restore the correct number of objects for a given backup ID. The duplicate objects will be ignored.

Currently, this is working as designed, and this behavior is desired in the case of multiple redo log copies. However, the BACKFM processing will be changed in a future release to not display duplicate files when multiple paths to a Tivoli Storage Manager server exist in the DP for mySAP configuration file.
