Assigning Rail Terminals to a Location

About this task

If your organization ships freight using rail carriersyou can associate a Sterling TMS locationwith a rail terminal. The rail carrier can submit a current positionupdate for this terminal using a car locator message (CLM) in an EDI214 status transaction.

Procedure

To assign a rail terminal to a location follow thesesteps:

  1. Open the first page of the Add or Edit Location process.
  2. Click Define next to the RailTerminal Display field. The Rail Terminals page opens.
  3. Click Add to create a rail terminalprofile. A second Rail Terminal page opens.
  4. Enter the name of the rail terminal.
  5. Enter the SCAC of the rail carrier.
  6. Enter the Freight Station Accounting Code (FSAC) for therail terminal.
  7. Click Save to create the profilefor the rail terminal and return to the first Rail Terminals page.
  8. After you have created rail terminal profiles you canperform the following tasks on the Rail Terminals page:
    • Select a rail terminal and click Edit toupdate the rail terminal profile.
    • Select a rail terminal and click Remove todelete the rail terminal profile.
  9. When you are finished defining rail terminals click Done toreturn to the Add Location page.

Example

The following example shows how the rail carrier can submitcurrent position updates using the FSAC for the rail terminal:

  1. Your rail carrier submits an EDI 214 status transaction for BN00006@ 7/24/2012 0830.
  2. Sterling TMS usesthe FSAC (BN00006) to determine that the last known current positionof the shipment was at the Cicero-Chicago rail yard on 24 July 2012at 8:30 a.m.
