apupgrade failing due to inconsistent yum & python version.

Troubleshooting


Problem

[root@e1n1 apupgrade]# yum --version
/usr/local/lib/python3.6/site-packages/rpm.py:15: UserWarning: The RPM Python bindings are not currently available via PyPI.
Please install them with your distro package manager (typically called
'python2-rpm' or 'python3-rpm'), and ensure that any virtual environments

This indicates:

  • A custom Python 3.6 installation (likely compiled manually or installed outside RPM)

  • It is taking precedence over the RHEL system Python

  • The RPM Python bindings (python3-rpm or python2-rpm) are missing in this custom Python environment
