Release 8.1

Hardware
System Any 64-bit Intel-based Macintosh

Note: Apple silicon-based Macintosh, by using conversion mechanism Rosetta 2 is not supported. This web page will be updated with further details when support is available.
Disk Space 500 MB disk space required to install the client.
Memory
 
No extra Random-Access Memory (RAM) required for product installation. RAM requirements for running the product vary widely and depend on your environment, configuration, and tasks that you run. More RAM might be required to run the product.
Software
Communication Protocol
  • Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Operating system Note: Apple changes their Macintosh security model and requires that any software, which is running on their operating systems, is signed and notarized by Apple. Due of these changes, IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client supports following operating systems.

The following operating systems are supported by IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client 8.1.10 and later:
  • macOS 10.14 (Mojave) (Beginning with 8.1.6)
    Note: Beginning with GSKit 8.0.55.17, GSKit provide 64 bit signed and notarized packages supporting macOS 10.14.5 and later. For that reason IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client 8.1.11 and later support started with macOS 10.14.5.
  • macOS 10.15 (Catalina) (Beginning with 8.1.9.1)
  • macOS 11 (Big Sur) and later updates (Beginning with 8.1.12)
  • macOS 12 (Monterey) and later updates (Beginning with 8.1.13)

If you are using the following operating systems, use IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client 8.1.9:
  • OS X 10.11 (Beginning with 8.1.0)
  • macOS 10.12 (Beginning with 8.1.0)
  • macOS 10.13 (Beginning with 8.1.2)
File system For supported file systems, see: File system and ACL support
More Software
The web backup-archive client use Java™:
  • Before backup-archive client 8.1.10: JRE 7 or JRE 8
  • Beginning with backup-archive client 8.1.10: OpenJDK JRE 11.7 + 10.2
Note: Beginning with IBM Spectrum Protect 8.1.2, you can no longer use the web client to connect to the IBM Spectrum Protect 8.1.2 or later server. For more information, see Using the web client in the new security environment



 

Release 7.1

Tip: The product now known as IBM Spectrum Protect was named IBM Tivoli Storage Manager in releases earlier than 7.1.3. To learn more about the rebranding transition, see Tivoli Storage Manager branding transition to IBM Spectrum Protect.

Note: IBM Spectrum Protect and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager 7.1 reached end of support (EOS) at 31 December 2021.

    • Beginning with backup-archive client 7.1.2: Java JRE 8 included (JDK 8 is no longer required)
The web client requires: Java plug-in that included in JRE 7 or JRE 8
