Error description
make DB2 z/OSMF artifacts directly available in HFS/zFS
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * * All Db2 12 for z/OS users who use the * * z/OSMF feature for installation or * * migration. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * Provide a Db2 installation CLIST * * option for copying generated z/OSMF * * artifacts directly to a specified * * HFS/zFS path. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * * Apply corrective PTF when available * **************************************************************** When the USE Z/OSMF WORKFLOW field on the main CLIST panel, DSNTIPA1, is set to YES, the CLIST generates artifacts for using z/OSMF to install or migrate to Db2 and stores them in partitioned data sets on MVS. Currently, users must manually import those artifacts into HFS/zFS because z/OSMF runs in z/OS Unix System Services (USS).
Problem conclusion
This APAR enhances the Db2 installation CLIST and panels with the ability to copy generated z/OSMF artifacts to a specified HFS/zFS path for direct availability to z/OSMF. The path is specified in a new field, PATH FOR Z/OSMF ARTIFACTS field, on DSNTIPM1, the z/OSMF artifacts configuration panel. By default, this field is blank, meaning that generated z/OSMF artifacts are created only in partitioned data sets on MVS. If the new field contains a path name, it is validated to ensure that: (a) it does not already exist as a file and (b) the user ID running the CLIST is authorized to write to the directory specified by the path. If a path is validated successfully then at completion of part editing the CLIST will copy into it the generated z/OSMF variable input file, workflow definition file, and JCL template files. If the path specifies a directory that does not exist, the CLIST will first create it. The variable input file and workflow definition file are modified to reference JCL templates from HFS/zFS rather than MVS. Validation, copy, and other errors associated with this process are reported by a new message, DSNT522I: DSNT522I PATH ERROR: <error-text>. Explanation The Db2 installation CLIST displays this error when it is unable to validate or use a specified HFS or zFS path name. The <error-text> provides further information as follows: <error-text> - CANNOT BE CREATED OR WRITTEN INTO BY <user-ID> Means that the user ID running the Db2 installation CLIST does not have authorization to create the specified directory (if it does not already exist) or otherwise to write content into it. - ALREADY EXISTS BUT IS NOT A DIRECTORY Means that the specified path name already exists and refers to a file so cannot be used a directory. - UNEXPECTED RESULT FROM VALIDATION Means that a validation service returned an unexpected result. The specific error from the service was displayed immediately prior to this message. - UNEXPECTED RESULT FROM COPY OPERATION Means that a request to copy a data set into the specified path returned an unexpected result. The specific error from the service was displayed immediately prior to this message. System action The installation panel is redisplayed with this error message and you cannot proceed until you correct the problem. User response Correct the problem and continue.
